Forensic Chemistry Site Supervisor - Grand Prairie TX id-23630

About the position

The Forensic Chemistry Site Supervisor at NMS Labs is responsible for the overall management of the forensic chemistry site, including supervising staff, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and overseeing the analytical testing of forensic samples. This role requires a combination of technical expertise in forensic chemistry and strong leadership skills to manage a team of forensic chemists and technicians. The supervisor will also handle facility management tasks and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to meet operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly production and analysis of exhibits to meet client needs.
  • Address facility issues such as HVAC, leaks, IT needs, and ventilation hoods.
  • Supervise lab staff and assist the Forensic Laboratory Operations Manager as needed.
  • Assist the Continuous Improvement/Technical Manager in implementing changes at the site.
  • Responsible for hiring, firing, training, and performance reviews of lab staff.
  • Investigate corrective actions for root causes and document processes.
  • Evaluate and document approval of all validations and methods used by the laboratory.
  • Review and document training records for newly qualified analysts.
  • Review laboratory procedures annually and proficiency testing programs.
  • Perform casework management including prioritizing and assigning cases.
  • Plan and manage resources within budget.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Perform duties of a Forensic Chemist, including casework and court testimony.
  • Prepare documentation and expert testimony for legal proceedings.
  • Communicate scientific findings to clients and stakeholders.
  • Stay current with scientific advances in forensic science.

Requirements

  • Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or forensic science from an accredited university.
  • B.S. with a minimum of 6 years lab-related experience, or M.S./Ph.D. with a minimum of 3 years of Drug Identification and/or Toxicology experience.
  • Minimum of 16 semester credit hours in college-level chemistry coursework above General Chemistry.
  • Coursework in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry, plus one additional upper-level scientific course.
  • Three college-level semester credit hours in Statistics.
  • Licensed by the Texas Forensic Science Commission within 1 year of hire, as applicable.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and/or accomplishments.
  • Minimum three years of supervisory experience in a clinical and/or forensic bioanalytical laboratory.

Nice-to-haves

  • ABC certified.
  • Experience in court testimony.
  • Experience writing, managing, and utilizing vendor contracts.
