Senior Economist - Direct Hire (12 Month Register) AMENDED id-23582

About the position

The Senior Economist position within the Large Business and International Division of the IRS serves as a key technical advisor, providing expert economic analysis and interpretation of economic phenomena. The role involves ensuring that policymakers receive accurate and meaningful economic information, as well as taking full responsibility for resource utilization and the application of findings. The economist will develop methodologies, prepare research materials, and review relevant economic literature to support their work.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an authoritative technical advisor within the Treaty and Transfer Pricing Operations (TTPO).
  • Provide technical information regarding economic analysis and evaluations of economic movements.
  • Ensure policymakers are provided with accurate and meaningful economic information.
  • Take full technical responsibility for resource utilization and interpretation of findings.
  • Determine methodology and prepare procedures for study design adequacy.
  • Develop and present support for research plans and findings.
  • Review economic, statistical, and subject matter literature for relevant data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in economics with at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, including application of economic methods related to transfer pricing and property transfers.
  • In-depth knowledge of Internal Revenue Code Sec. 482 and its application to tax returns.
  • Expertise in written and oral communication to explain and defend research findings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conducting comparability analyses and preparing comprehensive reports.
  • Ability to hold conferences with taxpayers and their representatives.
